Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleeping, is a powerful and easy-to-learn meditation technique. The practitioner lies comfortably in the corpse pose while this systematic meditation guides you through the Pacha maya kosha (five layers) of yourself, leaving you feeling whole. You don’t have to spend hours on the ground waiting for liberation. These are five benefits of developing a yoga-Nidra practice.
YOGA NIDRA IS PERFECT FOR EVERYONE
Long asana holds an intense vinyasa flow that is not for everyone. Yoga Nidra is an easy practice that anyone can do, even seniors. It is easy to do at any age. Your body only needs to lie on the ground. Even if your body cannot lie on the floor, it can still be seated.
YOGA NIDRA IS NOT PERMITTED IN CORRECT USE
You can follow the voice of your guide as you lie down in the savasana. You will likely remember parts of the meditation better than others. Each time you visit the practice, you will have a different experience. None of these are wrong. It is OK to fall asleep because you still get the benefits of the course.
YOGA NIDRA IS AN EASY INTRODUCTION TO YOUR DAILY LIFE
It cannot be easy to sit in meditation. Yoga Nidra is guided, and there are no intense thoughts or wondering why you’re staring at a blank screen. Yoga Nidra can be done for as little as 5 minutes or as long as 1 hour. The length of your yoga Nidra practice is up to you. It may be that yoga Nidra is best practiced as part of your bedtime routine. Turn on the headphones, place your headphones in, and then go to bed. Even though this isn’t the best way to practice yoga, it’s still a great option if you lie down.
IT’S A SIMPLE WAY TO REDUCE STRESS.
Yoga Nidra encourages deep relaxation that’s not found in regular meditation. To calm your nervous system, you can practice the stages of breath awareness and body scan to improve your health.
YOGA NIDRA OFFERS A WAY TO LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF INTIMATELY
Some people seek the deep relaxation this practice induces. Others use the non-judgmental, secure environment that yoga Nidra offers as a window into their inner world. Yoga Nidra allows you to be present at the moment and to release long-held emotions. Yoga Nidra enables you to feel emotion without ” diving in” into it. This means that you don’t become overwhelmed by emotion. As you practice, the emotion and the associated feelings will become more familiar.
Yoga Nidra is a way to achieve freedom from bodily stress. A samskara is a pattern or thought that becomes ingrained in the mind and body. This creates a mental impression (groove). These negative emotions and reactions can lead to negative emotions that prevent one from unifying the five layers ( Koshas). If you continue to feel negative emotions, your mental/emotional layers of the self will not be able to connect with the other layers, such as the physical, energetic, higher wisdom, or blissful body. Yoga Nidra is an excellent option for this.
