It’s a thrilling and wonderful adventure to travel the world. Travel is often seen as a way to grow, and many people see it that way. Traveling isn’t always about relaxing on the beach, taking yoga photos, or eating delicious smoothies. On the other hand, traveling can test us and force us into quick decisions.

We are yoga lovers like you, which is why we are reading this blog. We all know that yoga helps us to stay calm and centered. It also gives us a better perspective on our lives. It’s important to maintain a regular practice of yoga while on vacation.
- You can practice anywhere, anytime
It can be difficult to find the right spot for your yoga mat while traveling, unlike having a regular yoga studio. It can be difficult to find the right spot and time to practice yoga. However, when you’re out exploring the world there will be many stunning and interesting places for your body to move. I have practiced yoga under palm trees, in guesthouse gardens and airport lounges. I have even been known to practice a few standing poses in a hostel bathroom while holding on to the towel rail. As long as you are safe, it doesn’t really matter where you practice. Space can be a problem in smaller rooms. You can modify your flow by using modified sun salutations, standing poses or seated postures. Flexibility is key to your practice and your space.
- Take the time to fly
Once you have found a place to roll out your mat you will need to decide when it will be convenient to practice. You might be wandering around a new place or visiting an old historical site all day. But, you will not be able to spend your time on your mat. Traveling can be chaotic, especially when you have to leave in the wee hours of the morning for a flight. So, make the most of what you have. Do not make excuses for not practicing, but be honest with your self and know when it is time to stop. Even the most experienced traveler can get tired after a few days of constant traveling.
- Find the closest yoga studio
It’s a great thing to travel and have a passion for yoga. I have had the opportunity to study and practice different styles of yoga alongside some amazing teachers I wouldn’t have met back home. You can do some research about your favorite teacher to find out where they are teaching. Many teachers travel during summer months. It was a wonderful experience to be able attend the Ashtanga workshop in Bangkok with David Swenson. Another tip is to look into a nearby yoga shala/ashram. Many places in India offer affordable accommodation with the possibility to attend as many classes you wish.
- Get up early to meditate
You can make the most out of beautiful places by getting up early to meditate. Although this may not be part of your daily life, it can be very beneficial to find a place outside to meditate in tropical climates. It is magical to watch the sunrise and listen to the new sounds, even if you are far from home. It is a time to greet the new day, set your intentions, and admire Mother Nature in all her splendor.
- Learn as you go
You may spend many hours on a coach or train while en route to your destination. These hours can be used to explore yoga at a deeper level and get lost in a book. While on sleeper trains between India and Thailand, I have read Moola Bandha the master key, Autobiography of a Yogi, as well as The Yoga of the Yogi. This has helped me to pass the time. I have also learned endless amounts of wisdom that has helped me understand and enjoy yoga. Choose a topic you are passionate about and get ready for your next long trip.
- Be patient
Focus on other aspects of your yoga practice, not just the physical movement through poses. Take a deep breathe and take a deep breath. You can practice non-attachment to the outcome of a trip, because life might have other rewarding experiences. It’s not always easy to travel. You must be patient with yourself, your new surroundings and others. You can adapt by being compassionate, understanding, and open-minded to new cultures and new countries. Learn from your mistakes and learn from them.
Final words
Yoga and travel are great self-empowerment tools that can help us connect with ourselves, others, and the world. To continue practicing yoga, you need to change how you approach the mat and be aware of how you feel. It is important to put your energy into what you can do and not what you feel like you cannot.
